Language courses part two: Jersey
Last summer was I on another language course. This time I choosed Jersey.
Jersey is one of the Channel Islands in the English channel.
Jersey is the largest island and is located not far from the French coast.
We flew from Arlanda to Charles de Gaulle in Paris with a short break in Germany where we changed plane. In Paris, we saw the Eiffel tower and had a boat tour on the Seine. One of the days we spent on Disneyland.
The Eiffel tower
After two days in Paris we went by bus and ferry to Jersey.
At the boat terminal on Jersey, my host dad John stood with a paper with four names on. My name was one of them. The other three girls were already there when I came, so we just put our bags in the car and got our lunch from John. He promised to pick us up later so we could spend some time with our group. My rommates names were Ida, Malin and Camilla and they were all from Norway. I didn't like them at first, they seemed impersonal and boring. We were not in the same group. My swedish leader's name was Claudia, the danish Patrick and the finnish Johanna. After a couple of hours with Claudia and the others, our host family came and picked us up. John and Dawn were retired and lived in an old cowshed that they had renovated and rebuilt as a residential building.
The house
Me and the other girls had a big apricot-coloured room with our own bathroom. After a couple of hours trying to get to know the norwegian girls they turned out to be really funny and we laught a lot.
I can't say that the school was good at this language course. It was not rewarding and I didn't learn so much new. But I think I learned when I spoke with the finnish girls and my host family.
Jersey
So what activities did we have? We went kayaking, Banana boating, and played LaserQuasar. One day we took a boat to another of the Channel Islands: Sark. People said there were no cars on Sark, only two tractors (but I think they lied). The island was very beautiful and the weather was perfect. The only bad thing with that day was the boat trip. I will never forget it, I have never felt so sick in my entire life.
Sark
It was hard saying goodbye to all my new friends and I tried not to cry when I said thank you to Dawn and John. They were so adorable and I really enjoyed staying with them in their cozy stone house.
If you ever happen to end up at Jersey, call Dawn and ask for her Shepherds pie. You won't regret it, I promise!
